Job Overview

To be considered for employment in NYRA's Security Department you must be available for all tours and hours of work including Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. We do not hire for any one shift. NYRA's Security is around the clock seven days per week. NYRA Security employees provide security for both Aqueduct  Racetrack and Belmont Park, must be prepared to work at either location.  You must be willing and able to stand for long hours and work outdoors in all kinds of weather(examples:rain, sleet, snow and extreme temperatures). In addition, you must maintain physical conditioning as required by NYRA Security Department. All Full-Time NYRA Security positions are Union Jobs.


  • Available for all tours and hours of work assignments.
  • NYRA’s Security Department does not assign tours specific to certain days or shift.
  • Shifts are comprised of weekdays, weekends and holidays.
  • NYRA’s Security Department employees are considered essential employees.
  • The Security Department operates around the clock seven days per week (24/7). The Security department is open on holidays, weekends, and during inclement weather situations. Assignments include both Aqueduct Racetrack and Belmont Park.
  • This is a Union position, hourly rates are based on the union contract, currently $17.60/Hour. Strength and Agility Requirement:
  • Employee must be willing and able to stand for longs hours indoor or outdoor in various weather conditions i.e. rain, sleet, snow, and extreme temperatures.
  • Employee must pass a standardized physical fitness testing for law enforcement such as running, push-ups, sit-ups, and sit and reach. 
  • Three tests will be administered: 
    • Kneel/Stand Test 
    • Push-ups 
    • 5 Minute Cardiovascular Endurance Step Test  


    Education Requirements:

    • You must have either a High School Diploma or a GED. 


    Minimum Age Requirement:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age to be appointed as a NYRA Peace Officer. 


    Driver License Requirement:

    • Must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. 
    • If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.


    Psychological Assessment:

    • Psychological guidelines have been established for the position of a NYRA Department of Security Peace Officer.
    • Perspective candidates will be assessed to determine whether they can perform the essential functions of the position of a NYRA Peace Officer. 
    • Where appropriate, a reasonable accommodation will be provided for a person with a disability to enable him or her to take these psychological examinations, and/or to perform the essential functions of the job.


    Drug Screening Requirement:

    • You must consent to a drug test as part of a pre-employment screening process, which you must pass.
    • For cause testing may be administered, after appointment to Peace Officer.
    • Any Peace Officer found in possession of or using illegal drugs will be subject to corrective action which may result in termination.



    • Possess a high level of integrity, and be able to manage sensitive or confidential information.
    • Capacity to make sound decisions and escalate issues as appropriate to management.
    • Must be detail oriented, be able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
    • Demonstrate verbal and written and basic computer skills.
