Job Overview

NYRA's Communications Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the credentialing process for news reporters and photographers across all platforms. Acts as initial point of contact for Communications office. Assists in the creation of press releases, advances and other written communications, and leads all administrative functions for the Department of Communications, Media Relations and Community Relations. 

Responsibilities

  • Arranges credentials for news reporters. Communicates with news organizations. Communicates and works with production companies interested in filming at NYRA tracks. Produces daily press coverage recaps for department.
  • Assists with the creation and distribution of written communications, including:
    • Press releases
    • News notes
    • Quotes
    • Advances
    • Feature stories
    • Media Guide
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties for the Communications department, which include:
    • Creating business purpose memos for vendors, including production companies, graphic design companies and other outside companies
    • Ordering office materials through Puridiom
    • Submitting employee hours for the Payroll department
    • Processing and maintaining records of all invoices
    • Answering office phones to provide information to callers and resolve problems
    • Copying and faxing various materials
    • Handling snail mailings and bring material to the mail room
    • Preparing letters, forms and other correspondence
  • Assembles NYRA press kits.
  • May perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience:  3 years of relevant experience in a professional office environment, including at least 1 in a marketing, public relations or customer service role.
  • Strong English composition and grammar skills.

  • Strong customer service and time management skills. 

  • Ability to work at all three NYRA Tracks, Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course. Ability to relocate to Saratoga for approximately seven weeks in the summer (travel stipend provided).
  • Ability to work the racing schedule, including holidays and weekends.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
