Job Overview

The Senior Accountant will apply accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate control procedures are executed and documented.  In addition, the Senior Accountant will collaborate with members of the business operations and be responsible for understanding business unit financials and translating them into insights and actions through sophisticated analyses. 

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant:

 

  • Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information for assigned departments;

 

  • Participate in the month end financial close process, with emphasis on meeting all deadlines;

 

  • Responsible for extensive variance analysis (year over year, and budget) for assigned departments with strict deadlines;

 

  • Maintain and balance accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions; resolving discrepancies and preparing month end balance sheet / profit & loss reconciliations;

 

  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with Corporate policies and procedures;

 

  • Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls and write up of policies and procedures;

 

  • Assist with preparation of annual departmental budgets and monitors revenue/expenses for forecasting purposes;

 

  • Be the subject matter expert for assigned departments, including contractual obligations, major vendor obligations, and analysis of labor and benefits;

 

  • Research technical issues as they arise and report findings and conclude on appropriate accounting process/procedure to be adopted;

 

  • Assist in compilation of footnote disclosure, financial reporting and PBC’s for outside auditors.

Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, with either a CPA or Master’s Degree in a business concentration;
  • Experience: Five to seven years of experience in accounting, financial close process, budgets, financial reporting and ERP systems.
