  • Job Overview

    Directs and controls the activities of union and non-union employees who are responsible for the repair and maintenance of all racetrack facilities at Belmont Park and Aqueduct Racetrack; Oversees and coordinates the work of Facilities Supervisors who are responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the barn area and outside areas and, for the maintenance of flowers, trees, plants and lawns; Ensures that work is completed on time and within budget; Manages projects to improve or upgrade the racetrack facilities; Evaluates and makes reports on the performance of new employees during their probationary period; Responsible for facilities budgeting, including labor and material costs.

    Responsibilities

    • Directs and controls the activities of employees who are responsible for the repair and maintenance of all racetrack facilities, which involves repairing or replacing walls, fences, roofs and other structural components; repairing or replacing electrical wiring and devices; installing new plumbing systems and components; maintaining heating and air-conditioning systems; and repairing and maintaining walkways and roads.
    • Oversees and coordinates the work of Facilities Supervisors including:
      • Cleaning and maintenance of the horse barn facilities, outside areas, and parking lots, including snow removal when necessary.
      • The management of special projects to upgrade race track facilities.
      • Maintenance of flower beds, trees, plants, and lawns.
      • Design and display of floral arrangements to beautify the racetrack environment.
      • Arranging for the services of subcontractors for outside services.
    • Directs and controls the skilled trades and plans and assigns work to union and non-union employees on a daily basis; Checks and evaluates work to ensure that it is completed on time and in accordance with established quality standards; Coordinates work with other areas; Addresses and resolves corrective action matters informally; Develops and recommends options to improve workforce efficiency or the quality of work completed; Ensures compliance with established safety standards and other operating policies and procedures; Schedules time off for all facilities personnel.
    • Organizes and manages special projects to improve, expand, or repair race track facilities, which involves:
      • Arranging for historical contractors as required.
      • Planning work for all project employees.
      • Ordering materials and supplies.
      • Inspecting work being performed to ensure quality and compliance to specifications.      
      • Evaluates and makes reports on the performance of new employees during their probationary period; Recommends continued employment or dismissal. 
    • Attends weekly management meetings to discuss and coordinate work projects and assignments and to discuss other matters of mutual concern.
    • Perform duties of Facilities Supervisor as required.

    Qualifications

    • Education: High School degree
    • Experience: 10 years of experience in facilities maintenance. 5 years in a supervisory role in a construction or contracting environment, and supervising a union work force preferred.
    • Other Requirements: Willingness to work a racing schedule, which involves weekends and many holidays. Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
