  • Job Overview

    The Sr Database Developer position plays a key role in the organization as part of the Technology Services team. The Sr. Database Developer will acquire and maintain a high level of knowledge about how the business works and must develop highly effective working relationships with all members of the team. The Sr. Database Developer is responsible for working with the Applications Development team and the various business departments. The candidate will help identify business requirements, develop information models, and design SQL queries and reports.


    This position will be responsible for designing databases and ensuring their stability, reliability, and performance, establishing best practices, and working with other developers in optimizing SQL queries as necessary for applications. This position will be required to help solve all database issues, recommend ideas, advice and execute solutions in order to avoid such problems in the future.

    • Develops, designs and implements advanced SQL queries to improve operating efficiencies, reduce costs and meet the business needs.
    • Responsible for translating business requirements into technical specifications and data models.
    • Collaborate with applications developers on data modeling and ER diagrams
    • Design advanced SQL queries and database objects such as tables, views, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and cursors.
    • Create, maintain, modify, troubleshoot and optimize SQL Server database queries.
    • Must demonstrate extensive SQL query writing skills to support critical business needs.
    • Assist end-users with reporting needs using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
    • Responsible for ETL, data conversion and data migration projects using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
    • Prepare business documentation and specifications for IT operations
    • Continuously works to establish a high level of trust with business partners.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Education Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent  
    • Experience: At least five years’ experience in SQL programming 
    • Other (certifications): Microsoft certification preferred

    Knowledge Required:

    • Experience designing and implementing new databases in SQL Server 2008 R2, 2012, 2014, 2016 and a broad understanding of relational databases.
    • Experience writing advanced SQL queries, analyzing and optimizing queries and stored procedures, SSIS packages and SSRS reports
    • Broad understanding of software development and web technologies
    • Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
    • Strong project and time management skills.
    • Strong analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude and attention to detail
    • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with IT staff, business users and executives

    Preferred Knowledge:

    • Previous experience with .NET, Tableau, PowerBI, Datawarehouse, Multi-Dimensional data, and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) and cubes is a plus.
