  • Job Overview

    NYRA is seeking a Cleaning Supervisor at the Aqueduct Racetrack location. Responsibilties include supervising the activities of union cleaning department employees who are responsible for cleaning designated public areas and the administrative offices.   The Cleaning Supervisor ensures that the facility maintains its cleanliness throughout the course of the day and coordinates work efforts with the Night Cleaning Supervisor to ensure adequate and complete cleaning operations.

    Responsibilities

    Supervising Staff: Supervises the activities of union cleaning employees who are responsible for cleaning designated public areas and offices in two NYRA racing facilities including bathrooms, hallways, parking lots, and restaurant facilities.  Activities include:

    o   Mopping floors, cleaning sinks and other bathroom fixtures, vacuuming carpeted areas, cleaning other fixtures and office furniture, and removing trash;

    o   Stripping and waxing floors; shampooing carpets;

    o   Responding to requests and complaints that require cleaning services; and.

    o   Reporting situations or conditions that require maintenance repairs

    o   Supervises the activities of designated cleaning crew members in the completion of racetrack facilities before the opening of the next racing meet and throughout each meet or simulcasting season.

    o   Performs a variety of supervisory duties, which include planning and assigning work to ensure adequate coverage of all facilities; ensuring that all work is done in accordance within established guidelines and procedures; inspecting work to ensure high quality of cleaning operations; reviewing the performance of staff and recommending corrective actions; keeping attendance records; training new staff members in cleaning requirements and the proper use of cleaning solutions and equipment; coordinating work with other departments to ensure a smooth flow of work; developing and recommending improvements to existing operating policies and procedures; and ensuring compliance with the NYRA dress code and safety regulations and requirements.  

     

    Operations: 

    o   Ensures an adequate supply of cleaning materials and operating equipment to complete all cleaning assignments.

    o   Ensures quality assurance standards of cleanliness at NYRA are met.   

    o   Initiate or recommend corrective actions when necessary.

    o   Reports situations to the Facilities Manager that require maintenance and repair efforts.

    o   Identify and correct flaws of day to day operations and QA measures.

    o   Manages and motivates team in a professional and positive manner.

    o   Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    Team Collaboration: Maintains contact with other Supervisors to gauge overall productivity and to ensure adequate and complete cleaning operations.

    Qualifications

    • Education: Associates degree or some college coursework preferred; High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
    • Experience: 5 years of relevant experience. At least 3 years of supervisory experience.
    • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
    • Experience supervising in a union environment preferred.
    • Knowledge of commercial cleaning procedures and the time/resource requirements of routine tasks.
    • Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
    • Strong organizational, problem solving, communication, and leadership skills.
    • Ability to delegate effectively.
    • Proficiency in computer use (Microsoft Word, Excel, email, Internet, etc.)
    • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks.
