  • Job Overview

    The primary purpose of this position is to support the Belmont Redevelopment Project through public engagement of key constituencies throughout Nassau County. This would involve active and consistent outreach to elected officials, local businesses, associations, labor unions, home owners and environmentalists to build coalitions of support around this major capital project.

    Responsibilities

    • Create and implement a strategic public affairs plan to support the Belmont Park redevelopment.  
    • Build or strengthen working relationships with local elected officials, local businesses, associations, labor unions, home owners and environmentalists to ensure free flow of information.
    • Establish effective working relationships with construction personnel to provide timely public information to surrounding communities.
    • Serve as a key interface with state and local officials, including personnel from Empire State Development.
    • Develop an effective partnership with New York Islanders/New York Arena Partners public affairs personnel.
    • Work with internal resources in communications, facilities and government relations to keep all parties informed and engaged.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in public administration. Master’s degree preferred.
    • 5-10 years’ experience working in public outreach on major capital projects.
    • Extensive knowledge of state and local politics.
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience in project planning and execution.
    • Media relations experience.
