  • Job Overview

     

    The primary purpose of this position is reach out to various constituencies in the Elmont, NY area and ensure open lines of communication and issue resolution regarding the Belmont Redevelopment Project (the project). This would involve engaging elected officials, local businesses, associations, labor unions, home owners and environmentalists to educate them about the project and keep them posted on its progress. The ultimate objective of the role is to obtain active support for the project.

    Responsibilities

    • Create a public outreach plan for the project to establish direct contacts, build relationships and determine frequency and form of communication.
    • Build effective working relationships with local elected officials, local businesses, associations, labor unions, home owners and environmentalists to ensure free flow of information.
    • Participate in construction updates to always have current information to update the public.
    • Establish effective working relationships with construction personnel to address any issues in a truthful and timely manner.
    • Serve as the key interface with the Empire State Development Board as it relates to the project.
    • Develop an effective partnership with public outreach personnel form the Islanders to ensure coordination of communications and issue resolution.
    • Work with internal resources in communications, facilities and government relations to keep all parties informed and engaged.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in public administration. Master’s degree preferred.
    • 5-10 years’ experience working in public outreach on major capital projects.
    • Knowledge of local politics.
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience in project planning and execution and handling media inquiries.
